On Frisco's new builds, stone veneer is how owners add the character a flat builder facade skipped, an accent wall, columns, a chimney, or a kitchen surround in the backyard. The detail that makes veneer last is the moisture detailing behind it. Stone veneer is not waterproof; water gets behind it and has to drain out, so we install a drainage plane, a weep screed at the base, and flashing. On a new Frisco home we are often veneering over the builder's sheathing or a partial stone front, and tying the new drainage layer into what is there correctly is the part that protects the wall.

Natural and manufactured stone both fit new homes. Natural stone brings real depth and variation and adds weight the structure has to carry; manufactured stone is lighter, more uniform, and covers more wall for less. Builders often used a small run of manufactured stone on the front, so we can match or extend it, or step up to natural stone for a feature wall. We bring both to the house.

Mortar-set shows a grout joint for a traditional face; dry-stack sets tight with no visible joint for the cleaner, modern look most new Frisco homes lean toward. Both need the same drainage layer behind them. Veneer on columns and a chimney ties the exterior together, and it carries into the backyard on kitchen surrounds and outdoor fireplaces so the stone reads as one material.
