A lot of Frisco homes went up in the last 15 years with a backyard the builder left mostly bare, and the outdoor fireplace is the piece owners add once they move in. We build masonry fireplaces on the big new-build lots out in Newman Village, Phillips Creek Ranch, and Hollyhock, wood-burning for a real fire or gas for a clean flame on demand.
On a covered patio, and most of these new Frisco builds have one, draft and clearance are the whole job. The chimney has to clear the roofline and keep its distance from the framing and trim, and the flue has to be tall enough to pull smoke up and away from the seating. We size the firebox and chimney so it drafts clean before any facing goes on.
New Frisco lots are often handed over raw and roughly graded, so before we set a heavy masonry structure we look at how water moves across the yard. We pour a footing sized for the soil and the weight so the fireplace stays true.
For facing we use stone veneer, stucco, or brick, matched to the house so the fireplace looks built-in. A fireplace gives heat in one direction and a backdrop; a fire pit seats people all the way around, so the call follows how you gather.
