On a covered patio, and most of these new Frisco builds have one, draft and clearance are the whole job. The chimney has to clear the roofline and keep its distance from the framing and trim, and the flue has to be tall enough to pull smoke up instead of back into the seating. We size the firebox, throat, and chimney so it drafts clean before any facing goes on.

New Frisco lots are often handed over raw and roughly graded, so before we set a heavy masonry structure we look at how water moves across the yard and where the footing lands. We pour a footing sized for the soil and the weight so the fireplace stays true, and we keep it clear of the drainage paths the grading set up.

For facing we use stone veneer, stucco, or brick, matched to the house so the fireplace looks built-in rather than added on later. We set the seating and the hearth together so the heat reaches the chairs. A fireplace gives heat in one direction and a backdrop; a fire pit seats people all the way around, so the call follows how you gather. Stone veneer here often carries over to a stone facade on the house.
