Fire Pit Installation in Denton

Wood, natural gas, and propane fire pits built for Denton yards, from older lots near campus to the newer builds on the edge of town.

If you are looking to add a fire pit in Denton, the yard tells us a lot about the build. The older homes near the Square and around the UNT and TWU campuses sit on smaller lots where the pit has to be placed with care. The newer builds out toward Robson Ranch, Rivendale, and the north edge of town have more room and often have gas already run to the patio. Either way, we build the pit into the space you have.

Fuel is the first decision. Wood-burning costs the least to build and gives you the smell and the crackle, with wood to store and ash to clean. Natural gas is the low-maintenance choice, on and off with a switch and no smoke, which is why most of the newer Denton builds go that way. Many of those patios are already stubbed for gas, so the line run is short. The older homes near downtown usually need a line run from the house, and a licensed plumber makes that connection. Propane works when there is no gas to tap, fed from a hidden tank. We build all three.

A built-in pit is a low wall of stone, pavers, or concrete on a proper footing with a metal burner insert set into the top, and it is the version that holds up and looks built in rather than dropped on. A freestanding bowl or fire table is cheaper and movable but does not last. We match the stone to your patio and the rest of the hardscape, and on a gas pit we use a rated burner and pan so the flame stays even and the masonry stays dry instead of cracking after a season.

Placement is where the smaller Denton lots near campus need the most thought. The pit has to keep NFPA clearance from the house, the fence, and anything overhead, so on a tight yard we find the spot that is both safe and usable. Where there is room, a seat wall wrapped around the pit, a low 18 to 24 inch wall, gives you built-in seating without hauling chairs out. On the sloped lots toward Lewisville Lake we can tie it into a retaining wall so the grade and the fire pit go in together.

A fire pit and a fireplace are not the same project. A pit is open, lower cost, and gathers people in a circle. An outdoor fireplace is a tall structure with a chimney that anchors a wall and cuts the wind off Denton's open north side, and it costs several times more. We build both and tell you which one fits the yard and the budget.

We build fire pits throughout Denton and Denton County, and if your outdoor kitchen is part of the plan we match the stone so it all reads as one space. See more of our work in Denton, or compare our fire pits in DeSoto. Fill out the form for a free on-site estimate. We measure it, we quote it.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Gas is easier to use, on and off with a switch and no smoke or wood to store, which is why most of the newer Denton builds and the Robson Ranch homeowners pick it. Wood costs less and gives you the crackle. We build both and help you decide.

A simple wood-burning or propane pit lands around $3,000. A built-in natural gas pit with a stone surround usually runs $4,000 to $8,000, higher with a longer line run, premium stone, or a seat wall. We quote a fixed price after seeing the space.

Running a gas line is permitted work and the licensed plumber handles it. Newer communities like Robson Ranch and Rivendale usually require HOA sign-off on a built fire feature before it goes in. We can tell you what your lot needs up front.

Stone, pavers, and concrete all take the heat and the winter freezes without flaking, and we match them to your patio. On a gas pit the rated burner insert and pan are what keep the fire even and the masonry dry over the long run.

We build the masonry and a licensed plumber makes the gas connection. Many newer Denton patios are already stubbed for gas, so the run is short. Older homes near downtown usually need a line brought out from the house, and we handle that as one job.
