Fire Pit Installation in DeSoto
Wood, natural gas, and propane fire pits built into DeSoto backyards, sized to your patio and the way you use it.
If you are looking to add a fire pit in DeSoto, you usually already have the patio or pool deck and just want a spot that pulls people outside once the evenings cool off. We see it on the established lots around Thorntree and The Meadows and on the newer builds toward the south and east side of town. We build the pit into the space you already have, not as a kit dropped in a corner.
The first choice is fuel. Wood-burning is the cheapest to build and gives you the smell and the crackle, but you store the wood and clean out the ash. Natural gas is the easy daily-use setup, on and off with a switch, no smoke and nothing to haul. Most DeSoto homes already have gas at the house, so the cost mostly comes down to how far the line has to run out to the pit, and a licensed plumber makes that connection. Propane is the middle path when there is no gas line to tap, fed from a tank you tuck out of sight and refill. We build all three and tell you which one fits your yard.
Then the build itself. A built-in pit is a low stone or paver wall set on a real footing with a metal burner insert dropped into the top, and it is the version that lasts and reads as part of the patio. A freestanding bowl or fire table is cheaper and movable but shorter-lived. We work in natural stone, stacked stone, pavers, and poured concrete, matched to your patio and the rest of the hardscape. On a gas pit, the rated burner insert and pan under it are what keep the flame even and the masonry dry, so we use real parts, not a kit that rusts through in a season.
Where the pit goes matters as much as what it is made of. It needs clearance from the house, the fence, and anything that overhangs, and we follow NFPA distances on every install so it sits in a safe, usable spot. A lot of DeSoto lots have the room for a seat wall wrapped around the pit, a low 18 to 24 inch wall that gives you built-in seating without dragging chairs out. If your yard has any fall to it, we can tie that into a retaining wall so one crew handles the grade and the fire pit together.
If you are deciding between a fire pit and a fireplace, they solve different things. A fire pit is open, lower cost, and gathers people in a circle, which is what most DeSoto backyards want. An outdoor fireplace is a tall masonry structure with a chimney that anchors a wall and blocks wind, and it runs several times more. We build both and will walk you through which one fits the space and the budget.
We build fire pits throughout DeSoto and south Dallas County, and if we are also doing your outdoor kitchen we match the stone so the backyard reads as one space. FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Gas is easier to use and maintain. Flip it on and off, no smoke and no wood to store, which is why most DeSoto homeowners pick it. Wood costs less to build and gives you the smell and the crackle. We build both and tell you which suits how you actually use the yard.
A simple wood-burning or propane pit lands around $3,000. A built-in natural gas pit with a stone surround usually runs $4,000 to $8,000, more with a longer line run, premium stone, or a seat wall. We measure the space and give a fixed price.
A gas line tap is permitted work, and the licensed plumber handles that. If you are in a community like Thorntree with an HOA, a built fire feature usually needs board sign-off first. We can tell you what your setup needs before we start.
Natural stone, stacked stone, and pavers all take the heat and the freeze-thaw swings without breaking down, and we match them to your patio. The piece that matters most on a gas pit is a rated burner insert and pan, so the fire runs even and the masonry stays dry.
We build the stone and masonry and a licensed plumber makes the gas connection, so it comes back as one finished pit. Most DeSoto homes have gas at the house already, so the line run out to the pit is usually short.
