If you are looking to add a fire pit in DeSoto, you usually already have the patio or pool deck and just want a spot that pulls people outside once the evenings cool off. We see it on the established lots around Thorntree and The Meadows and on the newer builds toward the south and east side of town. We build the pit into the space you already have, not as a kit dropped in a corner.

The first choice is fuel. Wood-burning is the cheapest to build and gives you the smell and the crackle, but you store the wood and clean out the ash. Natural gas is the easy daily-use setup, on and off with a switch, no smoke and nothing to haul. Most DeSoto homes already have gas at the house, so the cost mostly comes down to how far the line has to run out to the pit, and a licensed plumber makes that connection. Propane is the middle path when there is no gas line to tap, fed from a tank you tuck out of sight and refill. We build all three and tell you which one fits your yard.

Then the build itself. A built-in pit is a low stone or paver wall set on a real footing with a metal burner insert dropped into the top, and it is the version that lasts and reads as part of the patio. A freestanding bowl or fire table is cheaper and movable but shorter-lived. We work in natural stone, stacked stone, pavers, and poured concrete, matched to your patio and the rest of the hardscape. On a gas pit, the rated burner insert and pan under it are what keep the flame even and the masonry dry, so we use real parts, not a kit that rusts through in a season.

Where the pit goes matters as much as what it is made of. It needs clearance from the house, the fence, and anything that overhangs, and we follow NFPA distances on every install so it sits in a safe, usable spot. A lot of DeSoto lots have the room for a seat wall wrapped around the pit, a low 18 to 24 inch wall that gives you built-in seating without dragging chairs out. If your yard has any fall to it, we can tie that into a retaining wall so one crew handles the grade and the fire pit together.

If you are deciding between a fire pit and a fireplace, they solve different things. A fire pit is open, lower cost, and gathers people in a circle, which is what most DeSoto backyards want. An outdoor fireplace is a tall masonry structure with a chimney that anchors a wall and blocks wind, and it runs several times more.
