Retaining Walls in Prosper by Lalo's Tile & Coping

Retaining walls in Prosper come up two ways. On new builds across Windsong Ranch, Star Trail, and Whitley Place, the lot often arrives freshly graded, and a retaining wall sets the level change on purpose, a raised bed, a stepped yard, or a bench for a pool deck. Around Gentle Creek and the drainage running through the older sections, a wall holds back a natural slope instead.

Prosper sits on the same Blackland clay as the rest of Collin County, which swells with rain and pushes against anything holding it back. On a graded new lot that runoff often drains toward the low corner or the creek nearby, so the wall on that side takes the most pressure. What keeps it standing is what you never see, gravel backfill and a drain pipe carrying the water out to daylight. A wall with nowhere for the water to go is the wall that leans, so we build the drainage in first.

We build modular block, natural stone, and poured concrete walls. Modular block is the practical choice for most grade work, since the units step back into the slope and reinforce easily as the height grows. Natural stone fits the established estate homes around La Cima where stone is already part of the look, and poured concrete with a stone face handles the tall, load bearing walls.

Past a certain height, Prosper wants an engineered design and a permit, and that is the right call since the load on a tall wall is bigger than it looks. We flag it up front and handle the engineering before we build.

Walls usually go in alongside other work here, so the stone matches your patio, outdoor kitchen, or new pool coping, one crew, one timeline. We work direct for homeowners and as the stonework sub for builders grading new Prosper lots. We cover Prosper, Celina, and northern Collin County.

What our clients say

Lalo is super knowledgeable and helpful. He's always answered all my questions and been my go-to guy for anything pool related. Can't recommend him enough.

Homeowner, Dallas TX

These guys did our whole pool retile in four days. Showed up on time every morning, cleaned up every evening. The pool looks better than when it was new.

Homeowner, Plano TX

We've used Lalo's on three builds now. They just get it done. No drama, no excuses. That's hard to find with subs.

Pool Builder, DFW

Lalo came out himself to look at our coping. Didn't try to upsell us on stuff we didn't need. Just told us what needed fixing and gave us a fair price.

Homeowner, Fort Worth TX

Had another company do our tile and it started falling off after one summer. Lalo's crew came in, tore it out, and redid the whole thing. Should have called them first.

Homeowner, Garland TX

Honest people, quality work. That's it. That's the review.

FAQ

Retaining Walls in Prosper, answered

Past a certain height, yes. Prosper treats a tall enough wall as a structure needing an engineered design and a permit. We tell you before we start whether your grade crosses that line and handle the engineering when it does.

Drainage, almost every time. Prosper's clay holds water and swells, and on graded new lots the runoff often collects toward one corner or a nearby creek, adding to the load on the wall there. A wall without gravel backfill and a drain pipe takes the full pressure and bows or cracks. We build with gravel backfill, a drain line out to daylight, and a real footing so the water moves and the wall stays put.

Yes, that is a lot of our Prosper retaining wall work. We're the stonework sub for builders grading new lots across Windsong Ranch, Star Trail, and the rest of Prosper, setting the level changes for beds, benches, and stepped yards from the start.

Modular block is the workhorse for grade work here, it reinforces easily for height and handles freeze thaw well. Natural stone suits the established estate homes that are already stone, and poured concrete with a stone face is for the tall structural walls. We bring samples to match your home.
